Strengthening Global Trade: The Extension of the OCEAN Alliance to 2032

In a significant move for the shipping industry, the CEOs of CMA CGM Group, COSCO SHIPPING, Evergreen, and OOCL convened in Shanghai on February 27, 2024, to cement their collaborative efforts. By signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), these industry titans have agreed to extend the operational cooperation of the OCEAN Alliance for an additional five years, until 2032. This decision underscores the alliance’s unwavering commitment to bolstering global trade networks and enhancing service delivery to customers worldwide.

Pioneering Sustainable Shipping

The OCEAN Alliance, established in 2017, has rapidly ascended to the pinnacle of global shipping networks, offering unparalleled service across numerous ports with optimal transit times. Beyond operational excellence, the alliance is leading the charge toward environmental sustainability. The CMA CGM Group, in particular, has pledged to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. An ambitious plan is already underway, aiming to operate over 120 containerships fueled by alternative green fuels by 2027, marking a significant step toward reducing the environmental impact of global shipping.

A Legacy of Excellence

For seven years, the OCEAN Alliance has been instrumental in maintaining the stability of global supply chains, adhering to the highest legal and regulatory standards. The extension of this partnership is a testament to the alliance’s dedication to delivering exceptional service and reliability to its partners and customers. As Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of the CMA CGM Group, eloquently stated, this extended cooperation not only meets the evolving needs of customers but also fortifies the alliance’s commitment to crafting more secure, reliable, and sustainable supply chains. Through diversity and innovation, the OCEAN Alliance is set to continue pioneering the shipping industry well into the future.
